Awareness campaigns

Puppet shows

We use hand-puppets, ‘Rosie and friends,’ for creating awareness on topical social issues. These puppets are a great medium to convey complex and/or sensitive issues such as child abuse, waste management, etc. Since our inception, our team and volunteers have performed over 200 shows, and conducted workshops for school and college students.

Community Organization

Upon request and depending on the needs of a community, awareness or short-term projects are planned and implemented. A few of our community organization activities were on:

  • Nutrition, Health and Hygiene @ Jawadhu Hills
  • Food Waste Managment @ Ambattur
  • Mobile photography for transpersons @ Shelter Home, Chetpet.
  • Dengue awareness @ RBI School.
  • Healthy lifestyle, preventive measures of chicken pox and restricting usage of plastic @Kezh Attipatu.
  • Child labor prevention @ ICF Colony, Gandhi Nagar.
  • Importance of preserving environment @ Bethany Nursery and Primary School, Egmore.
  • First aid training @ Mary Clubwala Girls Hr Sec School, Egmore.
  • Ddisaster management @ RKM Sarada Vidhyalaya.

College Engagements

We engage with colleges to run workshops, awareness debates and competitions, semiars or special programs. Our activities include

  • State level workshop on rights of vulnerable groups at Tamilnadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University.
  • Independenceday debate on youth and social responsibility at Madras School of Social Work.
  • A session on Human Rights for the Manual Scavengers, the Domestic Workers and the Homeless Mentally-Ill at Ethiraj College, Chennai.
  • Various competitions

Public campaigns

  • Traffic signal campaigns for raising awareness on the Tamilnadu Prohibition of Smoking and Spitting Act. 2002, with the support of the Chennai Police Commissionerate.
  • Puppet Shows in 7 public places in Chennai for Dengue awareness in association with the Greater Chennai Corporation.

Toilet campaign

We are a part of ‘Toilet Lab’, an umbrella program curated under toilet tales initiative by Studio Recycle Bin-in collaboration with IHE delft Netherlands and Greater Chennai Corporation. This activity explores all aspects of sanitation and hygiene practices to reframe and enhance the sanitation system across the city through four major multidisciplinary components: Toilet Fellowship, Toilet Mapathon, Public Advocacy- International Toilet Festival 2022-Chennai, Toilet R&D and pilot projects.

Toilet Fellowship is an interdisciplinary program exploring different aspects of public sanitation in the city are looked into through expertise collaborations. 22 fellows from diverse disciplines participated, looking at different aspects of a public toilet such as public health, social interface and design of public toilets, economy and governance, universal accessibility and inclusion.

Socio-fest

The term Culturals is synonymous with fun, frolic and competitiveness. In a first of its kind attempt, we injected a sense of social consciousness into this endeavor . The Sociofest brought two seemingly polar concepts together and to enrich the minds of young individuals, who will be a guiding light in the future to come.

Relief work

We are able to organize non-governmental teams to support emergency and disaster relief in times of need. We have worked with a team of volunteers and coordinated with other organzations to perform relief work during cyclones, floods, and Covid-19 pandemic.
